-Independently conducts or participates in limited or expanded scope audits of governmental organizations, programs, activities, or functions which may encompass the following: Financial and Compliance Audits - determines (a) whether the financial statements of an audited entity present fairly the financial position and the results of financial operations in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and (b) whether the entity has complied with laws and regulations that may have a material effect upon the financial statements.
-Prepares and reviews audit work papers to assure compliance with GAO and OIG documentation standards. Audit work papers must: (1) contain the results and scope of the examination; (2) not require detailed, supplementary, oral explanations; (3) be legible, and, (4) restrict information included to matters that are materially important and relevant to the objectives of the examination.
-Obtains and reviews sufficient, competent, and relevant evidence as a basis for reasonable judgments and conclusions regarding the organization, program, activity, or function being audited. Evidence may be physical, testimonial, documentary or analytical.
-Completes audit work within established time frames or obtains advanced approval for time increases.
-Prepares findings which are objective, clear, concise, completed, and constructive in tone.

Specialized experience for this position includes, but is not limited to: Candidates must possess specialized experience and knowledge of auditing standards for conducting financial audits, and attestations; knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; prepares and reviews audit work papers to ensure compliance with professional standards; and prepares and reviews findings or reports which are objective, clear, concise, and supported by sufficient evidence. Assisting in obtaining and analyzing data from a variety of sources; and assisting in the identification of laws, regulations procedures applicable to the subject of research or audit.
A. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
