Duties

Help
  • Serve as the installation subject matter expert concerning emergency dispatch services.
  • Administer emergency services communications operations for a large Army installation.
  • Provide emergency medical dispatch assistance to callers with medical emergencies.
  • Monitor status and availability of emergency service units (i.e. police, fire, and medical) to ensure the appropriate response is provided.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to members of an emergency services dispatcher team.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain certification in first-aid and CPR.
  • Must meet established hearing and vision tests; and, must be able to distinguish colors.
  • May be required to work emergency overtime.
  • Obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Must successfully complete 911 communications training in Fire, LE, EMD Dispatch, and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC); and, maintain current certification.
  • Position is subject to shift work.
  • Required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • The incumbent is required to possess and maintain certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch System through an accredited source.
  • The incumbent is required to attend National Accredited Public Safety Dispatcher Training. Continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • Responsible for attaining continuing dispatch and Intrusion Detection education requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State driver's license.
  • The incumbent is required to be trained in the National Incident Management System.
  • Possess and maintain certification in Tele-communicator I/II and Hazmat awareness approved by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), DoD, Pro Board or state of KY.
  • This is a Drug Testing designated position.
  • This position is designated as a Key Position IAW AR 690-11. Civilians in key positions must be exempted from recall to active duty because of Reserve or retired military obligation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in an Emergency Services Communications Center that includes (1) administering emergency services communication operations for a large Army installation or equivalent; (2) supervising a group of emergency services dispatchers; (3) providing technical direction on the operations and interface of law enforcement computerized databases such as Centralized Operations Police Suite (COPS), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and state law enforcement telecommunications systems, as well as the Computerized Intrusion Detection System (IDS).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
