Duties

Help
  • Serve as a professional pharmacist in an in-patient or out-patient pharmacies; compound prescriptions of physicians, dentists, and other licensed practitioners.
  • Formulate, prepare, bulk compound, dispense and preserve drugs, medicines, and chemicals.
  • Advise on drug therapy and usage; or perform administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work concerning the administration of a pharmacy program for hospital, clinic, or other medical care facility.
  • Research and investigation in developing special vehicles or variations of standard formulas to meet the needs of individual patients and in developing original techniques of compounding and making available for use new investigational drugs.
  • As a Supervisory Pharmacist, you may also serve as the Pharmacist-in-charge of operations.
  • As a Supervisory Pharmacist, you may also supervise Pharmacy Technicians in performance of work related to sterile products, prescription filling, and ward/clinic supply.
  • As a Supervisory Pharmacist, you may also provide authoritative professional guidance on problems of difficult, complex, or unusual nature.
  • As a Supervisory Pharmacist, you may also counsel prescribers, pharmacists and other health care providers on the proper use and storage of medications.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Position may be designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Certifying organization varies on location. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
  • Work schedule may require shift work or rotating shifts (evenings, weekends and holiday).
  • Permanent positions: Two year probationary period may be required.
  • Term positions: One year trial period may be required.
  • For supervisory positions, one-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Additional requirements may be determined as positions arise and will be communicated during the hiring process if you are selected.
  • This may be an obligated position.
  • This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Pharmacist:

Degree: Completion of a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Qualifications for GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Qualifications for GS-12: Specialized Experience is defined as: at least one year of professional pharmacy experience which includes dispensing medication, preparing pharmaceuticals, and providing inpatient, outpatient or retail functions such as developing pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutic regimens. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education
