Duties

Help
  • Planning, managing and coordinating a wide variety of domestic and international events involving public and private sector partners in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Directs logistical contractors and initiates administrative and contractual procedures necessary for all phased of events.
  • Drafts marketing and website materials, including press releases and press kits, talking points, and events scenarios.
  • Coordinates plans, branding, and social media strategies with Regional and Public Affairs Teams.
  • Monitors contractor performance to ensure quality delivery and contractual compliance. Drafts written evaluations to rate final work products.
  • Represents USTDA at regional events where the topic relates to USTDA's Sub-Saharan regional programs and events.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade. Specialized experience is experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of this position and has equipped you with the knowledge and competencies to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specifically, the required experience is described below.

At the GS-12 level:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates the ability to plan, execute, evaluate, and manage high-level strategic events and activities in support of USTDA's programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specific examples of specialized experience include:

  • planning and coordinating the logistics of small-scale domestic and international events (to include making space arrangements, transportation, lodging, menus, materials and equipment);
  • coordinating public and private sector participation in internationally-focused events and activities; and
  • preparing printed materials, such as press releases, speeches, briefing notes, and talking points.
At the GS-13 level:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates the ability to plan, coordinate and execute high-level strategic events and activities in support of USTDA's programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specific examples of specialized experience include:
    • directing and administering the logistics of large-scale domestic and international events (in addition to the GS-11 level example, these include budget oversight);
    • providing feedback on the performance and effectiveness of contractors; and,
    • representing your organization at meetings and presentations.

TIME-IN-GRADE: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Telework Suitability:
The duties of this position are suitable for occasional telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and if they meet the eligibility criterion in the 2010 Telework Act.

Stipulations of Employment:

Selection may require completion of a 1-year probationary period.

If selected, you will be required to file, prior to entrance on duty, a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450).

Applicants must be eligible to obtain and keep a Top Secret security clearance. Appointment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
