Management Services (EMS) General Foreman, Department of Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh
Health Care System (VAPHS). This recruitment is for two WS-2 Supervisor positions. One is located at Oakland-University Drive facility and one is located at Heinz-Aspinwall facility, but may be required to cover at either location.

Help

The primary responsibility of the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is to serve as a working supervisor within the Environmental Management Service and to provide unit supervision of Environmental Management Staff at any of the VAPHS divisions/campuses and or facilities. In this capacity, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor provides facility care services such as sanitation, housekeeping, bed management, bed cleaning, waste management (WM),
Regulated Medical Waste-RMW (Collection, In-Hospital Transport and Storage Only), Sharps Containers-RMW (Collection, in-Hospital Transport and Storage Only), assisting with integrated pest control, assisting with laundry, linen distribution services, employee uniforms, patient effects services, lost and found services, interior window cleaning, recycling, environment of care (EOC) rounds, system delivery, Green Tracker and waste management. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Adjusts assignments to ensure smooth work flow, meeting daily/shift goals and objectives, checking work production, performing written quality assurance checklists, inspections and communicating tasks/ projects to employees.
  • Coordinates production work, issuing tasks, duties and assignments, taking daily attendance, time keeping, issuing keys and overseeing key stewardship/key security control.
  • Provides contract officer representative (COR) with assistance with tasks such as checking contractor work assignments, tracking and monitoring work of contractors, approval and certification of work, signing manifests, signing certifications, collection of invoices and work permits from contractors, hand delivers/sends/emails documentation to COR.
  • Provides employees with feedback, inspects and maintains standards designated by the service line related to housekeeping closets and carts, prepares documentation, attends meetings, participates in independent project teams, participates in market research assists with updates position descriptions, reviews performance, standards, develops performance standards, works with HR on progressive discipline and time and leave.
  • Conducts physical and visual inspection of beds, rooms and other spaces space before and after the room/space is serviced by EMS staff.
  • Evaluates employees, reporting results verbally and in writing, and for completing supplementary forms independently.
  • Issues disciplinary actions, evaluate housekeeping employees related to performance and for the development of performance improvement plans.

Work Schedule:
Oakland-University Drive facility: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
Aspinwall-Heinz facility: Monday through Friday 10:30 pm to 7:00 am

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work is primarily sedentary, although some physical effort may be required, e.g. walking, standing, carrying light items such as manuals or briefcases, or driving or traveling by motor vehicles. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, training rooms, and libraries. The work also involves spending time in storage areas, patient care areas and waste storage and handling areas.
