About the Position: This position is located at Fort Hamilton in Southern New York City, Bay Ridge Brooklyn, at the base of the world famous Verrazano Narrows Bridge, which is a viable cultural area. It is 20 minutes to mid-town Manhattan. Since Spring 1998, the Fort Hamilton Military Community has been home to the North Atlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; New York City Recruiting Battalion; and New York Military Entrance Processing Station.

Duties

Help
  • Analyze factual and legal issues on various topics to advise clients.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications to draft and edit documents.
  • Conduct intake to determine eligibility for services.
  • Work independently and with attorneys to resolve legal problems pertaining to clients cases.
  • Respond to inquiries from attorneys and clients.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) preparing drafts, documents or other correspondence for review; 2) responding to requests for non-technical information; and 3) utilizing Microsoft Office Suite to assemble files, maintain calendars or prepare PowerPoint presentations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Qualified Typist Requirement: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
