Help

The incumbent's duties and responsibilities include:
  1. Responsible to start, operate, adjust, stop, maintain, and perform various operational repairs on multiple fuel boilers, medical waste disposal systems, valves (gate, globe, and needle), water pumps, bearings, fuel pumps, motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), air compressors, regulators, temperature gauges, pressure gauges, steam traps, sight glasses, motorized draft fans, steam traps, dampers, deaerator tank, condensate tank, controls (digital, analog, and pneumatic), water conditioning equipment, chemical conditioning equipment, sensors and pollution control equipment.
  2. Perform all maintenance and housekeeping duties within the plants.
  3. Responsible to maintain efficient combustion levels and ensure compliance with air pollution laws or regulations; use manual automatic, or microprocessors controls or control systems, monitors, adjusts, and controls all phases of the boiler plant operations.
  4. The position uses electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic controls, and zone charts in conjunction with meters, gauges, and computer-generated data to determine adjustments or corrections necessary for proper boiler operations or changing load requirements.
  5. Position reads and interprets wiring diagrams and blueprints.
  6. Regularly observe and note readings on gauges, meters, detectors, recorders, boiler water level indicators, and computer generated and analog displays to detect danger signals in operations.
  7. Perform minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
  8. Tests and analyzes the feedwater, boiler water, and condensate using standard chemical tests; determine the treatment and add chemicals to be used to control chemical concentrations, remove impurities and entrapped gases or stabilize fluctuating water conditions in the boiler.
  9. Working knowledge of standard practices and codes associated with boiler and chiller plant operations.
  10. Inspect, adjust, and repair all boiler controls safety devices, instrumentation, flow meters, etc., and inspect repairs and adjustments made by contractors.
  11. Tests and analyzes the feedwater, boiler water, and condensate using standard chemical tests; determine the treatment and add chemicals to be used to control chemical concentrations, remove impurities and entrapped gases or stabilize fluctuating water conditions in the boiler.
  12. Skill adjusting various conditions such as air temperature, furnace conditions, interpreting meter and gauge readings and making changes in combustion and have ability to perform preventative maintenance procedures and limited operational repairs.
  13. Comprehensive working knowledge of the theories, principles, and characteristics of refrigeration and air conditioning processes, systems, equipment, controls, and refrigerants, including the refrigeration cycle, heat transfer laws, use of refrigerant tables, airflow and pressure calculations, temperature and pressure characteristics of different systems, heat load and cooling load requirements, air balancing techniques.
  14. Logging key readings, any emergencies or equipment problems and actions taken and significant operational events such as power outages, etc. for review by both the oncoming shift relief and supervisor.
  15. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the employee signs.
  16. Exercise sound judgment and initiative to a high degree and be prepared to cope with unusual or extraordinary circumstances.
  17. In maintenance and repair operations, completes all work in accordance with required specifications and use a variety of standard mechanical and basic electrical processes.

  19. Keeps training up to date on the Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) program, confined space training, safety harness/fall protection, blood bore pathogens control, missing patient responsibilities, privacy and information security awareness, legionella training, and infection control measures.
  20. Comprehensive knowledge of many operational phases of boiler plants.
  21. Ability to operate and perform operator maintenance and repair on air conditioning, and boiler plant equipment to ensure adequate steam, and air cooling capacity at the facility.
  22. Thoroughly brief the oncoming shift relief and the work leader of any problems or unusual conditions and actions taken.
  23. All other duties as assigned by management.
Work Schedule: Swing Shift, Sunday - Saturday; 7:00 am - 3:00 pm; 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm; 11:00 pm - 7:00 am during same pay period (Subject to change based on needs of facility)
