About the Position:
These are temporary civilian faculty positions at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) as provided under Title 10 USC 4021 which may be hired as full time, part time, or intermittent. Initial appointment may be up to one year. The person(s) selected for this/these position(s) will have a leading role in teaching and coaching academic and executive communicative arts within a variety of resident and distance learning programs.

Duties

Help
  • Develop student abilities to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively with any audience.
  • Develop faculty skills in mentoring and assessing student professional communication competencies.
  • Provide constructive feedback on student manuscripts or documents.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate professional and academic communication events into curricula.
  • Promote the advancement of collaborative education and communication at the USAWC.
  • Teach and coach public speaking.
  • Teach on subjects related to professional and academic communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your curriculum vitae or résumé must clearly describe your relevant experience. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best-qualified candidates.

  1. Must hold a graduate degree in an appropriate discipline (Communication Studies, Rhetoric, English, or other relevant humanity/social science).
  2. Must have experience instructing the topics of written and oral communications.
  3. Should have experience teaching at the graduate level.
  4. Should have experience with curriculum design and differing educational modalities.
  5. Must be adaptable and prepared to work collegially with an accomplished faculty and mature students functioning at the executive level.

Education

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
