Duties

Help
  • You will plan, coordinate and carry out clerical and administrative functions for the department.
  • You will use a variety of office automation hardware/software to prepare correspondence and track documents to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
  • You will handle travel arrangements including transportation and lodging reservations, and submit required travel documentation in accordance with appropriate travel regulations.
  • You will requisition office supplies, equipment, publications to ensure adequate levels of necessary supplies.
  • You will respond orally to inquiries or requests for information and screen calls to decide to whom the caller should be referred too and greet visitors to determine nature of visit and determines appropriate action.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Top Secret/ SCI security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
  • This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

Qualifications

Candidate at the GS-6 level must have had at least 1 Year (52 weeks) of Specialized Experience at the next lower grade level (GS-5) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Preparing and composing various types of correspondence such letters, reports, and policies to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies.
- Applying general office administrative and clerical procedures to provide assistance and guidance to staff.
- Utilizing various computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, and Powerpoint to create complex formats.
- Developing methods for automating administrative reports to ensure compliance with all protocols and procedures.
