This position is with the Office of the Inspector General, IT AUDITS DIVISION located in Herndon, Virginia and Lakewood, Colorado. As a Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC), you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical assignments as part of a team that assesses the Department's IT systems, management, operations, and related processes. Your work will contribute to improving the Department's IT security management and posture.

Duties

Help

As a Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC), GS-2210-9, you will perform the following major duties:

Performs assignments in support of IT audits, inspections, and evaluations. Inventories, installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains digital lab equipment used for the performance of security control related testing.

Researches security accreditation requirements and identifies gaps in digital lab hardware, software, network, system, and operations. Assists in preparing and maintaining documentation for the accreditation of security testing lab environment.

Provides technical support to IT audit staff. Assists in gathering, logging, and analyzing IT and electronic records and data to be reviewed or tested for security vulnerabilities. Performs basic security control tests.

Assists in preparing reports and other written communications.

Orally presents technical information to other IT audit staff and OIG personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification for the GS-09

Education: A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Education must be in a related field. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

OR

Experience: 1 year (52 weeks) equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service of experience which included ALL of the following:

  • Assisting in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting IT components
  • Assisting in basic hardware and software maintenance, AND
  • Assisting in diagnosing and resolving basic IT problems, to include basic network problems, in response to customer reported incident
OR

Combination of Education and Experience: If you possess some, but not all, of the education or specialized experience described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100%to qualify.

Education

If qualifying for the GS-09 level with education, all academic degrees and coursework must be from an accredited or pre-accredited institutions approved by the Department of Education.

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the above requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education that you received, is comparable to an accredited educational institution in the United States.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply IT principles and methods including performance monitoring and troubleshooting, quality assurance principles, technical documentation, and application of appropriate security measures to monitor lab equipment performance and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of and skill in computer hardware, software, and networks including Microsoft Office suites, Linux and Windows client/server environments, and related IT systems and components
