About the Position: Incumbent performs a variety of duties in connection with toxic agent monitoring, assessment, and operation of equipment to handle and detoxify chemical and biological agents and agent related components. Works under critical safety and surety Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) to preclude or minimize danger and hazard to self and fellow workers. Advises supervisor of any unsafe situation or potentially hazardous situation related to job duties or work areas.

Duties

Help
  • Performs a variety of duties in connection with toxic agent monitoring, assessment, and operation of equipment to handle and detoxify chemical and biological agents and agent related components
  • Completed work in the form of recommendations, plans, designs, reports, or correspondence is reviewed for general adequacy, conformity to purpose of the assignment, and sound engineering judgment
  • Observes setups and procedures and reports data on performance for inclusion in operating log to assure adherence to the operational schedule
  • Assists with leak-seal, packaging, transportation, and certification in accordance with Dept of Transportation (DOT) and Army requirements for movement of both military and industrial toxic agents across public roadways and international borders
  • Calibrates automatic detectors, utilizing training and reference publications in the accomplishment of basic assignments

  • Must be available for mobility for temporary duty (TDY) assignments or temporary change of station (TCS) both CONUS and OCONUS
  • Must have the capability for emergency worldwide response to chemical/biological accident/incident situations 24 hours per day 365 days a year
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous Material Endorsement within 24 months of employment
  • Required to work with or in close proximity to hazardous chemical warfare materiel, biological warfare materiel, recovered chemical warfare materiel, toxic industrial materiel, toxic industrial chemicals, X-rays and explosives
  • Must have the ability to work outside, exposed to all weather conditions
  • Must obtain and maintain a Government driver's license within 30 days of employment
  • Must obtain and maintain a stateside driver's license within 30 days of employment
  • Must be able to comply with the provisions of Army Regulation 50-6, Nuclear and Chemical Weapons and Materiel, Chemical Surety, Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) and able to maintain Chemical Surety PRP requirements

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) coordinating pick-up and delivery schedules of chemical agents or toxic industrial materials (2) calibrating automatic detectors by referencing training and reference publications and (3) documenting results related to toxic industrial chemicals/materials operations.
OR
Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR
The specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and some education leading to a bachelor's degree but less than required in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) participating in daily operations of chemical or hazardous materials (2) reporting data from hand held chemical agent detectors to analyze toxic agent activity levels and (3) assisting to the response of chemical incidents or accidents.
OR
Successfully completed a half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the positon, such as engineering, construction, industrial technology, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, chemistry, emergency management or mathematics. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
The specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have some graduate level education as described in B, but less than the required half year. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-7
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) assisting with packaging chemical materials in accordance with established guidelines (2) recording collected data gathered by hand held chemical agent detectors and (3) checking the functionality of systems to include air supplying systems, pumps or water dispersal systems.
OR
Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as engineering, construction, industrial technology, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, chemistry, emergency management or mathematics (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
The specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have some graduate level education as described in B, but less than the required one year. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). OR
