Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for the performance of a variety of archival activities for a limited number of record groups which are homogeneous and their general content known, such as aviation mishap investigation reports.
  • You will be responsible for establishing the internal or external relationships of record groups or series.
  • You will be responsible for the critical judgment in the analysis and evaluation of documents in order to determine their relationships and establish their evidential or informational values.

Qualifications

GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience performing professional archival work in appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, publishing or providing reference service from public records and historic documents equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most of all of the following duties: 1) Performing archival functions by researching historical information and arranging documents in functional categories; 2) Providing historical research and archival reference services; 3) Processing, conserving and preserving archival documents, films, and photos; and 4) Maintaining record keeping database of archived materials.

GS-07: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-05) level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must include the following: 1) Performing archival management functions, such as monitoring, processing, arranging, describing, researching and managing documents; 2) Communicating and assisting with various audiences; and 3) Managing digital assets in a content management system, digitizing archival materials, attaching metadata to digital assets and managing content.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government
OR
Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

GS-09:
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Combination of the education listed above

GS-07:
1 year of graduate level education
OR
Superior academic achievement
OR
Combination of the education listed above
