Two hours between both San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains with access to exceptional wine in Napa and Sonoma. Known as America's Farm-to-Fork Capital, recognized for its farm-fresh restaurants, and plentiful farmers' markets. Sacramento has many cultural and artistic events and the NBA's Sacramento Kings.

The Sacramento VA Medical Center is looking for a full-time Neurologist. Qualified incumbent will diagnose, treat, and manage patients with neurological disorders. We are seeking fellowship trained candidates with experience in clinical and investigative aspects of movement disorders. Responsibilities include inpatient, outpatient and on-call coverage after hours and weekends. On call coverage is via telehealth (not in person). The candidate will work closely with four other Neurologists and a Neurology nurse practitioner with different sub specialty training and interests. Work life balance is a reality! An academic appointment with UC Davis School of Medicine is a distinct possibility, opportunities for teaching and research abound.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am to 430pm, 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Best qualified candidates will be Board Eligible/Board Certified Physician in specialty with 5+ year's experience in the field.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested. Physical demands of this position involve primarily walking, talking, use of telephone/computers, etc. Strenuous physical activity is not required although the incumbent is expected to withstand pressure and stress as part of their day-to-day activity.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
