    This position is located within the Office of Spatial Analysis and Visualization, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) a component of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). BTS is the Principal Federal Statistical Agency that provides objective, comprehensive, and relevant information on the extent and use of the Nation’s transportation system and how well the system performs.

    As a Cartographer, you will:

    • Produce high quality maps, charts, and graphics. Maps include both reference and thematic maps and may be static or dynamic and rendered in 2D or 3D.  
    • Conduct critical review of numerous new and revised charts, maps, and related products. 
    • Review, evaluate, and edit for completeness, accuracy, and validity a variety of geographic materials including geospatial data and its attributes, maps, and database tables.
    • Design and carry out cartographic projects, operations, and studies. 

    The ideal candidate is a professional with experience creating innovative static and dynamic cartographic products which require simplifying complex problems into information that is easily conveyed in understandable ways through maps.
