Duties

Help
  • Serves as an Accounting Technician, Medical Billing, in the Uniform Business Office (UBO), Resource Management Division at Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center, responsible for billing the Third Party Collection Program and Medical Affirmative Claims.
  • Verify patients? information to ensure accurate assignment of benefits.
  • Provides office support in the receipt, billing, and processing of bills and payments for the Third Party Collection (TPC) Program at Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center.
  • Maintains current knowledge of directives, guidelines, statutory, and regulatory changes in the various programs.
  • Prepares bills and supporting documentation to issue to insurance carriers for outpatient care. Assures accuracy, consistency, and completeness of both supporting documentation and claim, in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintain clear and/or retrievable procedures to account for all services billed and/or collected.
  • Prepare items such as work sheets, reports, schedules, and comparative analysis to provide results of reviews to management.
  • Contacts various Insurance companies to obtain from insurers the reasons for discrepancies in the amount claimed and paid, or explanations for delay or denial of payment.
  • Speaks to patients, in the event of a discrepancy of insurance coverage, to receive latest insurance coverage information.
  • Receives ADS forms of patients having Third Party Insurance, retrieves information of visits from patients? records, and enters a variety of information/data into the Armed Forces Billing and Collection Utilization Solution.

  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) required 5% of the time.
  • Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical and technical work concerned with supporting accounting, budget, and other related financial management duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education:
A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting. (Note: You must submit Transcripts)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must submit Transcripts)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Education
