Summary

This announcement is open to all U. S. citizens who are enrolled at least half-time as students in an accredited 4-year college or university who have completed at least the sophomore year in college when they enter the program; a planned graduation date after December 31, 2021 and are majoring in a certain specified field, (see Education Requirements); and are in good academic standing.

Duties

Help

The Student Trainee will assist in economic and banking industry analysis with the Division of Insurance and Research (DIR). This work involves using software to analyze data. In addition, it involves the creation and/or finalization of memoranda, reports, presentations, charts, graphs for distribution to stakeholders. The Student Trainee will routinely retrieve and scan files and records, prepare documents, reports, and correspondence in final format, and ensure correct punctuation, spelling, grammar and conformance to FDIC style. 

In some cases, the Student Trainee will provide logistical support for meetings and conferences.

Applicants should be comfortable working on teams, balancing multiple tasks with overlapping delivery dates, and shifting gears when new priorities arise.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must:  (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have a minimum  cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.50 out of 4.0; and (3) be in good academic standing.  Applicants must be pursuing an Economics degree.

The applicants selected will be offered an excepted appointment not-to-exceed one year.  The starting date of employment is expected to be approximately January 4, 2021.

After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC’s needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program. However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

Registration with the Selective Service.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Low Risk Position - National Agency Check Investigation (NACI) required.

Employment Conditions.

All selectees must sign an FDIC Pathways Internship Participant Agreement.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify by Education:

Applicants must have completed two (2) full academic years of post-secondary education at an accredited college or university. Two full academic years are equivalent to 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits in a college or university.

To qualify by Experience:

Applicants must have one(1) year of general experience performing economic research or related work that involved collecting, compiling, verifying, analyzing, or reporting data.

Applicants may qualify based a combination of both education and experience. Whether qualifying based on education or experience or a combination of both, applicants must be pursuing an Economics degree.

  4. Ability to communicate orally to obtain required data for statistical report, coordinate assignments and clarify data
