In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and certification requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Minimum Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an Aviation Safety Inspector in the 1825 series as outlined in the OPM qualification standards. General Requirements:
1. Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years;
2. Valid State driver's license;
3. Fluency in the English language;
4. No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and
5. High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Requirements:
Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation. The minimum medical requirements include the following:
6. Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without train, printed materials the seize of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted);
7. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); and
8. Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft.
In addition, applicants for positions that require participation in the operation of the aircraft must:
9. Possess a valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations; and
10. Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA.
AND
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants for the GS-12 level must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level and must meet all of the following requirements:
11. At least 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 maximum certificated takeoff weight;
12 Not more than 2 flying accidents during the last 5 years in which the applicant's pilot error was involved;
13. Minimum 100 flight hours during the last 3 years;
14. Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument rating;
15. Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Making routine inspections of organizations for compliance with Federal Aviation, OSHA, DoD, Army Aviation and Army Reserve Regulations and policies. Instruct and evaluate (1) individual pilots by written and oral examinations or (2) mechanics by written and practical examinations. Train and educate on ground and aviation safety, proper handling of hazardous waste management (HAZMAT) and communication (HAZCOM). Apply regulations and safety standards that are well established and fully applicable. Plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the Safety and Occupational Health Program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
