About the Position:
As a Public Affairs Specialist plans, writes, photographs and edits news articles for internal and external publications. Prepares news releases and media advisories for local media regarding 21st Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) activities. Organizes, executes and evaluates Public Affairs programs in the sustainment and improvement of media and public relations.

About the Position:
As a Public Affairs Specialist plans, writes, photographs and edits news articles for internal and external publications. Prepares news releases and media advisories for local media regarding 21st Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) activities. Organizes, executes and evaluates Public Affairs programs in the sustainment and improvement of media and public relations.
Incumbent provides media escort for court martial?s and other command directed events and provides analysis of public perception of host nation and US Publics.
Serves as personal speechwriter for the 21st TSC Commanding General (Major General) and when necessary the command group.
Performs work in coordination with the Public Affairs Officer and receives speech requirements from the Commanding General, conducts independent research and prepares speeches for internal, external and international audiences.
Serves as Media Relations and Command Information Program Public Affairs Specialist.
Establishes and maintains contacts with local, national and international media officials and offices to obtain their support, cooperation and coordination on activities of mutual concern.
Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes writing personal speeches, editing news articles, and preparing written communication materials on subjects related to the organization's programs; presenting information orally in a logical and clear manner to explain programs, projects or activities to both internal and external audiences; AND analyzing and evaluating political trends and climate as well as national and international media trends. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
