    Responsibilities

    The United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, is seeking highly qualified attorneys to serve as Trial Attorney for Digital Markets in the Technology & Financial Services civil section based in Washington, DC. Attorneys will work on the Department of Justice's review of business practices of market-leading online platforms, including any associated investigations or enforcement actions. In addition to the normal duties of a Trial Attorney, Digital Markets Counsel will have specialized training opportunities to gain expertise in both digital technologies and the application of antitrust law to platform markets.

    This is a term appointment for a two-year period. At the end of this period the appointment may be extended up to an additional two years for a total of four years. Extension of the appointment beyond two years is at the sole discretion of the agency.

    The Technology & Financial Services civil section is responsible for civil antitrust enforcement and litigation, competition advocacy, and competition policy in high-tech sectors of the economy, including products or services that commercialize data, utilize online distribution, or depend on network effects.

    Digital Markets Counsel can expect to focus on matters in high-tech sectors of the economy, including products or services that commercialize data, utilize online distribution, or depend on network effects.     As Trial Attorney, responsibilities include merger review, other civil investigations, and litigation of anticompetitive conduct as well as public advocacy for policies that ensure an innovative and competitive marketplace. Attorneys in civil sections frequently grapple with challenging cases involving technical complexity, technological change, barriers to entry, and evolving competitive and regulatory landscapes. Successful applicants can expect to be given significant responsibility and have immediate involvement with matters of national importance. The attorneys hired can also expect a collegial and stimulating work environment involving collaboration with highly experienced attorneys and economists on cutting-edge matters and to enjoy the satisfaction of serving the public interest.
