    This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Subtropical Horticulture Research Station with one vacancy in Miami, Florida.

    The incumbent serves as curator and recognized scientific expert in subtropical/ tropical woody and herbaceous ornamental germplasm to include palms, cycads, and others which may benefit the Florida and other Southern states ornamental industry.

    • Implements new procedures used to accomplish the increase, characterization, evaluation, maintenance, and distribution of subtropical/tropical woody and herbaceous ornamental germplasm and associated information.
    • Recommends and/or develops alternative methods/techniques to accomplish objectives especially with the novel crops where standard procedures do not apply.
    • Utilizes phenotypic, genetic, genomic, and molecular techniques to genetically characterize subtropical/tropical ornamental germplasm to properly classify and understand taxonomic relationships among related species.
    • Applies phenotypic, genetic, and genomic techniques to evaluate woody and herbaceous germplasm for adaptation, ornamental merit, and to select superior variants that could accelerate genetic improvement of ornamental germplasm.
