The Housing Specialist position is located within the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Program (HCHV). The Housing Specialist works directly with the HCHV program manager and provides housing services to all HCHV programs: HUD-VASH, Emergency Housing and Veterans Justice Outreach. This position is located in Big Spring, TX and supports the Enhanced Housing First model. Driving responsibilities will be throughout the West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) catchment area.

The incumbent serves as the primary authority on existing and future permanent housing resources for all counties participating in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development/VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program at WTVAHCS. The development of future permanent affordable housing resources will require coordination between the WTVAHCS HUD-VASH program, facility leadership, Public Housing Authority (PHA) executive leadership, independent landlords, rental associations, community and government agency executive leadership, and leadership of corporations involved with the development of affordable housing.
Acts as a housing resource for Veterans.
Drives Veterans to potential housing units.
Identifies existing Section 8 housing in the community.
Develops external relationships to increase housing options.
Provides consultation and support to program care managers.
Educates housing community on benefits of HUD-VASH program.
Develops working relationships and agreements with external organizations.
Provides updates to HUD-VASH case management team regarding housing placement progress.
Communicates with internal team members.
Develops detailed plans, goals, and objectives for administration of the program.
Maintains database inventory of Section 8 housing.
Composes correspondence using proper format, grammar, and spelling.
Drives through out the West Texas VA Health Care System.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
