Duties

Help
  • Performs a variety of duties incidental to the maintenance and cleanliness of the area to which assigned.
  • Performs the full range of janitorial duties in maintaining the dining facility in orderly and clean condition at all times.
  • Prepares fruits and vegetables for serving.
  • Sets up and replenishes food service and steam tables with hot and cold food.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision. such as assembling food supplies and/or products in accordance with established procedures; following instructions to set up kitchen equipment properly; providing assistance in food preparation - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves moderate physical effort. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, e.g., lifting individual dishes or trays in serving or cleaning tables; lifting trays or clean dishes. Lifts filled milk containers weighing up to 55 pounds to heights of three (3) feet. Is constantly standing and walking.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen and dining areas. Steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted, but usually noisy from food service activities and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Subject to prolonged periods of standing. Must abide by personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures such as wearing a hairnet or hat and a clean uniform daily.
