The Vehicle Systems Department of the Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Directorate, Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) is seeking a senior engineer to serve as Branch Chief of the Program Analysis and Systems Integration Branch. The incumbent will be responsible for directing and managing SMA functions and activities in support of the MSFC projects and programs.

  • Provides leadership and directs an SMA team of subject matter experts in the development/delivery of SMA systems engineering and integration products during all aspects of design, development, and production of flight systems and subsystems.
  • Makes on-the-spot decisions in areas of technical expertise to solve problems and resolve conflicts in day-to-day activities with the contractors and Government Agencies involved.
  • Makes recommendations to the Department Manager regarding the adjustment of SMA resources, starting or stopping SMA projects, and redirecting SMA program plans and approaches to overcome critical, unforeseen difficulties and unsatisfactory results.
  • Responsible for the mentor-ship, utilization, growth, and training of Branch personnel to ensure safe operations and appropriate skill/experience mix toward maximizing the efficiency, quality, and timeliness of delivery of product/services provided.
  • Performs safety, reliability, trade studies, risk management, development, design, test, and evaluation of proposed new flight systems & related external systems.
  • Supervises and controls the work of the organization. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the Branch.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-14), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Specialized experience includes leading or managing, personnel or projects or teams; Experience leading and coordinating complex schedules/resources across multiple organizations/centers/programs to ensure that obligations are met in timely manner in support of programmatic needs; Experience performing or leading systems engineering in support of space systems.

Education

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

U.S. Engineering degrees must have been awarded from a college or university school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Foreign Engineering degrees must be recognized by a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), often known as accords. These are non-governmental agreements among organizations that accredit academic degree programs. MRAs recognize the substantial equivalence of mature accreditation systems and programs accredited by signatory organizations within their jurisdictions.
