Summary

About the Position: The purpose of this position is the operation of Bucket Loader and smaller forklift trucks. The incumbent will also operate NTVs (Non-Tactical vehicles) and large tactical equipment and smaller motor vehicles as required.

Duties

Help
  • Operates 15,000 lb and 40,000 lb bucket loaders with forks and/or bucket to lift, load, unload, move, and stack ISO shipping containers, equipment and/or material capable of lifting loads in excess of 40,000 lbs., higher than 30 feet.
  • Operates forklift trucks capable of lifting loads in excess of 10,000 lbs., higher than 168 inches to load, stack, and un-stack, re-warehouse, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or loose items.
  • Operates NTVs and large tactical equipment with trailer to transport a variety of palletized containers, general supplies, material handling equipment, lumber, dunnage, and other material.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to work irregular work hours after normal duty hours, weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the gun control act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Forklift Operator (Materials handler/Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common tasks to include reading and interpreting instructions; transporting cargo while operating motor vehicle with trailer transport; loading and unloading of cargo; operating commercial bucket loaders and forklifts; making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts moderate to heavy effort in securing loads with chains, straps, cables, etc., and in connecting and disconnecting air hoses and trailers. Good eye-hand-foot coordination and depth perception are required especially when positioning tractor-trailers, and when operating truck container handlers. Work requires climbing, stooping, bending, lifting and carrying of heavy material, occasionally up to 50 lbs., and ability to maintain a fast work pace for extended periods.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to working in a variety of weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of weather and traffic conditions and on roads that may be rough, slick due to rain, ice, snow, or arctic conditions. Exposed to possible serious injury while driving vehicles and to cuts, bruises, and broken bones while loading and unloading vehicles, while operating material handling equipment, and handling material. Exposed to dust, dirt, and unpleasant weather conditions when working in outdoor areas during all seasons of the year.
