Summary

This position is located in the Facilities Management Service of the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System in Prescott, Arizona. The Incumbent filling this position will routinely perform manual labor tasks involving use of common hand tools and simple power equipment (e.g., power lawnmowers, both push and riding, edger's, hedge clippers, weed eaters, blowers, etc.)

Help

Incumbent operates a Tractor with brush cutter weighing more than 3,700 pounds; and a forklift weighing more than 3,200 pounds. Incumbent is responsible for the placing of the avenue of flags on flag days, moving furniture to and from the Medical Center and at each of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining the grounds free of litter and trash, pruning trees and shrubs, mowing grass, weed eating 1 removing snow/ice from parking lots, sidewalks, steps, and entrances, and applying ice melt or sand where needed. Incumbent Is responsible for cleaning the smoking shelter, outer entrances to the Medical Center, and the grounds shop and office. Incumbent applies proper fungicide to shrubs, plants, and trees for insects and disease.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

  • Without more than normal supervision

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Moderately heavy physical effort is required. Incumbent must possess the physical strength and ability to lift heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds, push and pull heavy carts on wheels, climbing into and out of vehicles and loading and unloading cargo. Incumbent must possess the strength and ability to operate and maintain vehicles, running power mowers on grades or pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads of fertilizer, etc.

Incumbent works primarily outside in all types of weather and weather related conditions. Incumbent must drive/operate equipment and move cargo in extreme weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, snow, ice, etc. Continuous standing, walking and lifting is required and will be exposed to possible bumps, bruises, and other injury from vehicles or equipment. Incumbent is required to wear appropriate safety equipment for the duties being performed.
