Duties

Help
  • Installs, inspects, troubleshoots, performs modifications and repairs to powered and non-powered AGE.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on powered and non-powered AGE in accordance with technical data.
  • Performs major repair, replacement, and overhaul of powered AGE components such as diesel, gasoline, or gas turbine engines, and mechanical and electrical accessories of engjnes.
  • Incumbent Complies with Consolidated Tool Kit {CTK) program. Adheres to all regulations, directive and policies pertaining to the CTK program
  • Incumbent maintains established flight and work center supply procedures. Adheres to all regulations, directives and policies pertaining to supply discipline.
  • Incumbent accurately documents forms and records. (i.e. equipment. vehicle. training. historical, etc.)
  • Utilizes safety practices, procedures, follows established safety rules and regulations, and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • The work WILL require the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 2-1/2 ton truck. An appropriate valid driver's license and authorization to operate the assigned equipment on base is required.
  • Position may require the employee to operate a forklift up to 15,000 pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evening weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Emergency overtime may be required.
  • May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
  • Position may require EPA refrigerant recovery certification.
  • Position may require employee to be Red X certified.
  • Position may require employee to support mobility/deployment exercises.
  • Position may require employee to meet all task qualifications in accordance with AGE career Field Education and Training Plan.
  • The employee interacts with others to achieve stated objectives and presents a positive, courteous and friendly presence when dealing with customers, coworkers and supervisors.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Position requires security clearance, line badge, and flight line drivers licenses.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.

Physical Effort: Performs work which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers.

Working Conditions: May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and
loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, bums, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants to reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eye glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to AGE powered support systems.
2. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline and gas turbine engines associated with AGE equipment.
3. Knowledge of technical practices associated with repair and maintenance of Aerospace Ground Equipment; hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, refrigeration, heating, liquid/gaseous oxygen and nitrogen and mechanical systems.
4. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides associated with AGE equipment.
5. Ability to use and maintain tools, measuring and test instruments, and related equipment needed to repair, maintain, and troubleshoot Aerospace Ground Equipment.
6. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training to others. Ability to adhere to regulations, directives and polices governing the Air Force and Foreign Object Damage Program (POD).
7. Knowledge of Quality Assurance Program and flight line operations.
8. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and the documentation of maintenance actions.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
