Summary

Atlanta VA Medical Center is recruiting a highly qualified rearfoot surgical podiatrist who can also serve as residency program director. Board certification with either the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) or the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) is preferred. An active license to practice in a state or territory is required. The podiatrist will examine, diagnose, and medically and surgically treat disorders, diseases, deformities or injuries of the foot and ankle.

Help

Clinical and Surgical Responsibilities:

    1. Provide care to veteran patients and work collaboratively with other departments to ensure comprehensive management
    2. Provide wound care and be committed to limb preservation to our high-risk patients
    3. Perform forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot surgery
    4. Provide peri-operative care, including but not limited to pre-operative evaluations and postoperative care
    5. Manage inpatient consults, including consults from the ward and the long-term care facility.
Academic/Teaching/Research/Program Evaluation:
    1. Instruct rotating residents and students clinically, surgically and didactically as residency program director
    2. Actively participate in research projects and serve as advisor to residents
    3. Meet the requirements established by CPME to perform as residency program director.
Other Significant Responsibilities:
    1. May serve on various Atlanta VAMC Committees
    2. Maintain licensure and board-certification status
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 4:30

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. Incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable, and capable to perform the duties of the position.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
