Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol at the Tucson Sector - Nogales Border Patrol Station located in Nogales, AZ.

This position allows you to use your experience providing clerical support and assistance applying technical procedures, methods, and techniques in support of the mission and functions of the agency. This position starts at a salary of $43,713.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $56,823.00 (GS-07, Step 10) with promotion potential to $56,823.00 (GS-7 Step 10).

  • The Mission Support Assist performs office support tasks providing assistance to other mission support personnel. Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assisting higher graded staff and managers on various policy and procedural aspects of personnel/payroll processing, budget, travel, workers' compensation, logistics and other administrative programs; monitoring, receiving, prioritizing and routing service requests.
  • Assisting in coordinating and monitoring the organization's property and space utilization programs; participating in physical inventory of non-expendable property and equipment; using automated systems to search various sources for information on purchasing products and/or services.
  • Preparing workload and productivity reports, evaluating areas for process improvement, and determining root causes for problems and processing errors; performing other office automation tasks and general office support.
  • Interacting with employees at all levels; working with on-site and inter-office personnel on basic personnel staffing, reports and a variety of entry-level personnel actions using appropriate automated systems.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Coordinating administrative requirements with offices served
  • Maintaining contact with offices having primary responsibility for administrative programs and obtaining the most up-to-date information on procedural requirements
  • Assisting with routine administrative matters
  • Maintaining databases, identifying trends or patterns, and compiling narrative/data reports.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must:
  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/11/2020.

In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job. The assessment includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered. You will not be considered for the position if you score below the cut score or fail to complete the assessment.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.   • Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
