Duties

Help

As a Space and Facilities Director, you will:

  • Supervise all duties, in connection with planning, developing, and administering policies and procedures related to space and facilities management; to include coordinating efforts to secure and obtain necessary resources required for space and facilities management, the design of office layouts and work areas, structural or service modifications, special facilities, internal office and equipment moves, storage areas, telecommunications systems, security systems and IT network systems.
  • Supervise and train professional technical staff; oversee work and coordinate daily workflow in office.
  • Oversee the effort to provide support and guidance to VA OIG HQ and Regional (Field) Offices concerning project management of OIG facilities; which includes providing information and consultation on design and costs of planned projects.
  • Coordinate with senior leadership and staff of VA OIG, VA, General Services Administration (GSA), and other required sources to obtain/convey VA OIG needs; coordinates execution of contracts and leases; ensure timely delivery of services; and oversee quality control and implementation of all projects.
  • Oversee numerous space and facilities related contracts to ensure that they meet the needs of the organization and are timely awarded to ensure good and services can be provided in accordance with pre-established organizational plans.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:  For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Short-term and long-term project management of renovation, maintenance and construction projects, including cost estimates, budget proposals, and reporting; AND
  • Supervising or leading a staff responsible performing highly technical work for planning, designing, evaluating, coordinating, advising, administering, or performing research for space and building projects, to include lease holdings, building construction, facility management, and space realignments and alteration.   

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- A one year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- Public Trust – Background Investigation will be required. 
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.

- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
- Obtain and use a Government-issued purchase card for business-related travel.
- File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
