Duties

Help

As an Management Officer you will:

  • Serve as the second level supervisor of employees engaged in a wide variety of administrative, management services, business operations, and planning functions for the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).
  • Develop goals and objectives and establish policies and procedures to accomplish the work of NCHS and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input in the formulation of the NCHS budget and present and defend resource requirements needed to carry out NCHS long-term goals and objectives.
  • Advise the NCHS Director on the preparation and presentation of the NCHS out-year budget.
  • Develop annual budget plans and budget justifications and the management of approved budgets within NCHS.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate critical and operational planning, program development, and administrative and management services programs for NCHS.
  • Participate with the NCHS Director in establishing long- and short-range goals, objectives, and plans for NCHS.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Supervisory position: Yes. Since this is a supervisory position, candidates must also have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. A supervisory probationary period may be required. Basic Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level of in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in planning, organizing, and directing financial and administrative operations and formulating and implementing organizational goals, objectives and plans.

Documenting Experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
