The incumbent will be responsible for conducting an experiment or research project related to plants; collecting or evaluating plant samples; maintaining records of scientific data; and operating or maintaining laboratory or field equipment.
Collects and evaluates plants for identification at species levels, plant community data, plant physiology traits, and fire energy data in support of research.
Assists with research related to recovery of degraded, damaged, or invaded ecosystems.
Observes the interaction between ecosystems and fires.
Assists in research performing plant community sampling, outdoor work in rough terrain and harsh weather conditions, operating machinery, greenhouse plant propagation, measuring plant carbon and physiological processes.
Locates and compiles data related to research on plants or ecology.
Maintains, calibrates and modifies complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Tabulates, statistically analyzes and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
Initiates action to resolve or correct technical difficulties and results found in the experimental process and recommends resolution to supervisor.

Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience conducting an experiment or research project related to plants; collecting or evaluating plant samples; maintaining records of scientific data; and operating or maintaining laboratory or field equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include biology, ecology, or botany or other similar degrees, provided that the coursework places an emphasis on plants, plant ecology, or restoration ecology.

A combination of directly related graduate level education and experience as described above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
