Advises state, industrial, tribal, and private forest/plant nursery managers, and growers on a variety of topics relating to production and deployment of native plants for reforestation and restoration.
Serves as a member of the National Reforestation, Nurseries, and Genetic Resources Team (RNGR), working at regional, national, and international levels in providing technical expertise for forest plant and conservation nursery production.
Participates in RNGR activities requiring interagency coordination and cooperation to meet agency goals and objectives,
Provides advice on national policies and regulations relating to RNGR activities as requested by the Washington Office staff.
In cooperation with other deputy area colleagues, advises state, industrial, tribal, and private organizations on plant genetics and germplasm conservation.

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR, successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.
OR, a combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.

Specialized Experience Requirement: For GS-12 level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 Grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: participates in the reforestation and regeneration technology transfer; assisted in the preparation of reports on tree planting and reforestation; assists other organizations and government entities with technical assistance and technology transfer for projects.
For GS-13 level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 Grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: provides reforestation and regeneration technology transfer; prepares reports on tree planting and reforestation; understands national policy and regulations related to reforestation; works with organizations and other government entities by providing technical assistance and technology transfer for projects.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
