Duties

Help
  • Perform the duties of Flight Simulator Training Instructor and/or Instrument Examiner (simulator only) utilizing motion and non-motion based CH-47 Flight Simulators.
  • Exercising the skill and knowledge of an experienced rotary wing pilot or flight simulator instructor, through the use of highly sophisticated simulator devices and formal classroom instruction
  • Evaluates comprehension, retention, and application of procedures related to visual and instrument flight, tactical flight, helicopter gunnery, aircraft/weapons system operations, and limitations.
  • Conduct instruction/evaluations in a manner that is purpose-oriented.
  • Develops and proposes requirements for facilities, audiovisual training aids and simulation devices.
  • Continuously monitors and proposes the update of curricula, and evaluates formal and informal classroom instruction to include undergraduate, graduate, and advanced training for aviators.
  • Instructs and/or oversees the instruction of military pilots and instructor pilots in the operation of single engine rotary wing attack aircraft.
  • Prepares time schedules, work plans, and establishes learning objectives, instructional methods and techniques, training materials and aids.
  • Employee oversees/directs operations of the CH-47 flight simulator.
  • Programs simulator devices to replicate various conditions (e.g. weather, weapons configuration, cargo loads, etc.) Employee also instructs in instrument approach and departure procedures, holding procedures, and use of instrument landing systems.

  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Instrument Examiner (IE), certification within 1 year of entrance on duty.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.
  • Undergo initial, and thereafter an annual instructor pilot and instrument flight examiner evaluation.
  • Temporary travel duty 15% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Flight Simulator Training Instructor and/or Instrument Examiner (simulator only) utilizing motion and non-motion based Flight Simulators. Instruction of pilots and instructor pilots in the operation of single engine rotary wing attack aircraft. Program simulator devices to replicate various conditions (e.g. weather, weapons configuration, cargo loads, etc.)

Desired Candidate is a graduate of Aviation Center Instrument Pilot Course.
