Duties

Help
  • Investigate and analyze material damage, personal injury accidents, and cases of occupational illnesses.
  • Ensure compliance and enforcement of various safety and occupational health subprograms.
  • Survey and appraise conditions affecting the health, efficiency and environment of personnel to eliminate or minimize unhealthful conditions.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and advice to staff, tenants and unit/directorate collateral/ additional duty safety officers in the interpretation of regulations/standards to achieve sound program objectives.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Must Obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • Lifting up to 40 lbs required.
  • Physical examination required.
  • May be required to use personal protective equipment such as respirators, goggles/safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other protective clothing.
  • Perform moderately strenuous work involving some physical exertion, such as standing for long periods, bending and stooping to observe and study work operations in an industrial, storage or comparable work area.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing safety or occupational health program elements; developing and/or recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management; and, advising on and/or resolving technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
