Perform a variety of support tasks that include assisting offenders with articulating their goals for success, helping them to monitor their own progress, modeling effective coping techniques, providing self-help strategies based on the Credible Messengers own experience, and assisting offenders with learning how to seek and obtain effective services within the community.
Provides educational or career guidance, social and emotional support, and serves as an accountability partner. Acts as a bridge, as needed, between the assigned offender(s) and the professionals working with the offender(s) to understand the particular goals for the offender(s) and discuss with the professionals how the incumbent's personal experiences in the criminal justice system and mentorship can be integrated into the plan to help the offender(s) succeed.
Helps offenders make better and safer decisions, pursue their goals, get connected to school and work, and repair relationships with family and community.

Meets and observes offenders, reporting any individual issues, such as social, behavioral or disciplinary problems to professional staff. Helps offenders make better and safer decisions, pursue their goals, get connected to school and work, and repair relationships with family and community.
Uses shared experience, knowledge, skills and abilities as a former incarcerated person or their successful completion of supervision to provide general guidance to the offender(s) about how to achieve a positive reentry or supervision outcome.

Conditions of employment

A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation, drug testing, and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination. Appointment may be subject to random drug testing after selection.

U.S. Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals. Failure to certify US Citizenship may result in your application not being considered.

This is a temporary appointment not-to-exceed 6 months. However, a one time extension NTE 6 months may be possible without further competition.

Qualifications

GS-3: Qualifying experience for the GS-3 level includes six (6) months of general experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or that provided familiarity with the subject matter of the occupation.

GS-4: Qualifying experience for the GS-4 level includes six (6) months of general experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or that provided familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the occupation, AND six (6) months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-3 level that is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Education

GS-3: The experience requirements for the GS-3 level may be met by completion of one full year of full-time academic study in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college, or university. Completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than one year (usually of at least 3 months duration) may meet in full the experience requirements. Such courses may have been obtained through a variety of programs such as those offered by technical schools, and through military training programs. The course must have been designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled, and must have provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work.

GS-4: The experience requirements for the GS-4 level may be met by completion of two full years of full-time academic study in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college, or university.
