Duties

Help

  • Writer for the federal agency that oversees AmeriCorps and Senior Corps, responsible for compelling storytelling that inspires Americans to serve.
  • Manages writing projects from initial concept to delivery. Develops and maintains schedule. Collaborates with stakeholders on content. Independently researches topics. Leads clearance process. Juggles multiple duties, sets priorities and meets deadlines.
  • Ideates, writes, edits and proofreads copy for a full spectrum of communications including web content, digital advertisements, brochures, speeches, emails, and official correspondence.
  • Composes messages to staff, partners, and external audiences that provide timely, relevant information while building connections.
  • Ensures adherence to AP Style and the agency style guide.
  • Independently drafts inspiring copy for owned, earned and paid digital channels. Reviews data to test effectiveness and adjusts as necessary.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the lower range of the NY-03 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:

  1. Managing writing projects from initial concept to delivery;
  2. Collaborating with key stakeholders on content;
  3. Writing, editing and proofreading copies for a full spectrum of communications to include web content, digital advertisements, brochures, speeches, emails, and official correspondence; AND
  4. Composing messages to staff, partners, and external audiences that provide timely and relevant information.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.
