Summary

This position is with the Office of the Inspector General , INVESTIGATIVE SUPPORT DIVISION - OPS, CCU, IMU, in Herndon, Virginia. As an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Computer Crimes Unit (CCU), Supervisory Criminal Investigator you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and guiding a national computer crimes investigation program including data and forensic analysis and possess expert-level skills in computer crimes investigative techniques, tools, and practices.

Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator, GS-1811-14, you will perform the following major duties:

  • Supervise a staff of Criminal Investigators and Information Technology Specialists to conduct forensic media analysis and computer crimes investigations regarding allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement;
  • Plan, implement and guide a national computer crimes investigation program including data and forensic analysis;
  • Identify and recover evidentiary data from various network-based systems or stand-alone devices via the utilization of advanced investigative automated tools or techniques;
  • Review, edit, and approve reports of investigations to ensure they are in accordance with OIG policy and clearly communicate the results; and
  • Provide presentations, briefings or reports to the Inspector General, General Counsel, Assistant Inspector General for Investigations or other DOI or OIG leaders.

  • OGE-450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report may be required.
  • Time-in-grade requirement - Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • Complete the Basic Criminal Investigative Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, or its equivalent.

This position is approved for Secondary Law Enforcement coverage under 5 (USC) 8331 (20) or 5 USC 8401 (17). Previous experience in a primary (rigorous) law enforcement position or equivalent outside of the Federal government, is a prerequisite. Coverage only extended if this position immediately follows service in a law enforcement position. FERS applicants for this must have completed three (3) years of service in a rigorous position (aka primary) position in order to continue coverage upon selection.

Criminal Investigators under the 1811 occupational series are eligible for law enforcement availability pay (LEAP), not to exceed 25% of the rate of basic pay.

Selectee will be required to qualify to carry and use firearms and other weapons as part of assigned duties and maintain such qualification.

Applicants are ineligible for this position if convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence, unless such conviction was expunged, set aside, or the applicant received a pardon.

Selectee must meet the initial agency suitability determination (i.e. local police checks, review of past employment data, review of Query National information Center report, results of special agency check, etc.) before a final offer can be made.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications GS-14 :

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing all of the following:

1) Identifying and recovering electronic evidentiary data from various network-based systems or stand-alone devices (computers, cell phones, etc.), via utilization of advanced investigative automated tools or techniques;

2) Leading or supervising a team of investigative staff;

3) Conducting forensic media analysis in the course of a computer crimes investigation; AND

4) Conducting criminal investigations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, or "white collar crimes".

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for this position.
