Help

As a Medical Records Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as a technical expert in health record documentation
  • Maintain a medical records system for a facility
  • Provide clerical and computer support to medical staff
  • Extract medical record information for patients

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess one of the following:

Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:

  • Performing administrative or clerical duties relating to the processing and maintenance of medical records
  • Maintaining medical records in accordance with regulations
  • Reviewing records for correct format, completeness, and accuracy
  • Preparing correspondence, memorandums, and reports
  • OR
Education: Four years above high school OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

Based on your responses, you will receive a score from the Assessment Questionnaire between 70 and 100.
