Help


The Primary Purpose of the Position is: To perform various administrative and clerical duties
in support of the organizational unit. Performs office automation support using multiple
automated programs and software such as databases, spreadsheets, and graphics in support of the
administrative and clerical work; and performs various ADPAC duties.

  • Communicates with various providers and health care workers to identify clinic and specialty availability.
  • Receives telephone calls, greets visitors, and ascertains the nature of the calls or visits.
  • Locates and selects appropriate references and procedures for application to specific questions.
  • Documents various clinical and administrative actions.
  • Utilize various office computer equipment, software packages, systems (FBCS, VISTA, Microsoft Office, CPRS) and Web based applications involving troubleshooting minor problems.
  • Consolidates and summarizes electronic data for a higher level review.
  • Maintains administrative files and records in accordance with established guidelines: Public Laws, agency regulations and directives, professional manuals, NVC program operating procedures and references such as desk manuals and dictionaries.
  • Establish constructive and effective working relationships with the office staff of Non VA Care providers to effectively schedule appointments, resolve, ensure ongoing patient (and vendor) satisfaction, ensures efficient communication and problem resolution.
  • Provide information and education to Non VA Care VA clinical and non-clinical staff to promote understanding and compliance with program requirements and time frames to include required supporting documentation for requests.
  • Reviews and processes outgoing requests.
  • Complies with mandatory training requirements for the outpatient scheduling process.
  • Consults with the requesting provider to obtain clarification or additional needed information.
  • Provides information and education to clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Promotes understanding and compliance.
  • Applies independent judgment and select the most appropriate process/guideline/regulation.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/06/2020.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: For GS 06 you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience performing office automation support using multiple automated programs and software such as databases, spreadsheets, and graphics in support of the administrative and clerical work; processing referrals and resolves vendor and/or patient complaints; and performing ADPAC duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, etc. Employee is required to answer personal/telephonic inquiries and must have adequate eyesight and hand dexterity to allow or reading and operating a computer. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
