Summary

Performs technical duties in support of professional scientists conducting research projects.
Assists with preparation for field work including reviewing historical plot data, researching and recording ownership information and contacting landowners and managers.
Uses aerial photographs and topographic maps to locate study areas and study plots in the field according to requirements of a study plan or instructions of the supervisor.
Following instructions and standardized procedures and protocol, collects a variety of data including forestry, botanical, and geographic measurements.
Gathers data on such things as: tree growth and mortality; forest type, stand size and stand age; anthropogenic treatments and/or natural disturbances; insects and disease; soil attributes; and understory vegetation composition.
Records all measurements utilizing a portable data recorder; completes accurate and concise plot summaries. Independently edits and loads plot data on a regular basis.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-6: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service, which is defined as: Collecting forestry or botanical measurements; Obtaining data on tree growth and mortality; forest type, stand size and stand age; anthropogenic treatments and/or natural disturbances; and insects and disease; Recording raw natural resource data utilizing a personal data recorder; Uploading and editing natural resource field data into a personal computer.
