This position will serve as the Medical Records Technician (Coder) at the Uintah & Ouray Service Unit located in Fort Duchesne, Utah. The Incumbent performs highly technical and specialized functions to optimize reimbursements by performing ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding. The Incumbent will reports to the Supervisory Health Systems Specialist on-site.
Summary
This position will serve as the Medical Records Technician (Coder) at the Uintah & Ouray Service Unit located in Fort Duchesne, Utah. The Incumbent performs highly technical and specialized functions to optimize reimbursements by performing ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding. The Incumbent will reports to the Supervisory Health Systems Specialist on-site.

Quantitative Analysis - Performs comprehensive review of the record to assure the presence of all component Parts, such as: correct name, health record number, signatures and dates where required, and all reports which appear to be indicated by the treatment rendered.
Evaluates tie record for documentation, consistency, accuracy and correlation of recorded data, such as medical necessity and modifier usage.
Ensures the final diagnosis as stated by the physician is valid, complete and accurately reflects the care and treatment rendered.
Analyzes provider documentation to assure the appropriate Evaluation & Management levels are assigned using the correct codes.
Assures diagnostic and procedural terminology used is consistent with currently acceptable medical nomenclature.
Provides ongoing education, updates and briefs physicians, nursing staff and health care personnel within the immediate organization or work unit/ on coding updates, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
Assists with performing routine audits in accordance with the facility Compliance Plan and Performance Improvement, which may include findings from provider documentation trends, coding peer reviews, and reimbursement denials.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0675-07:
GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Analyzing, interpreting, and abstracting data from clinical documentation and/or electronic health record to assure the presence and compliance of all component parts of the record; performing quality and medico-legal analysis to ensure requirements of the record are complete, accurate, and reflects sufficient data to justify the diagnosis and warranted treatment; and reviewing, assigning, and correcting diagnostic and procedure codes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0675-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: performing the full range of medical coding; assigning International Classification of Diseases, Ninth and Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology, Fourth Edition (CPT-4) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes; and applying coding knowledge to a wide range of specialty areas.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
