About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles.   • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment subject to completion of probationary period.
  • 10% travel, CONUS and/or OCONUS, in increments up to and including 179 calendar days. Employee is subject to extended periods of TDY CONUS and O'CONUS, including extended periods of deployment to an O'CONUS combat theater.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • Employee must be able to pass a deployment physical examination before placement in the position and an annual deployment physical examination thereafter.
  • Position may be converted to permanent without further competition.
  • Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years.
  • Temporary reassignment may be made or extended at management discretion.
  • Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Weapon Systems Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Weapon Systems Mechanic Leader tasks including performing routine and repetitive tasks operating assigned combat vehicle weaponry systems; troubleshooting techniques, conducting various tests to check calibration of instruments, special tools, fixtures, collimating equipment, and other hand tools and equipment. I can overhaul, repair, rebuild, make modifications to wiring, installation and diagnose electrical, electric, electro-hydraulic, and electro-mechanical assemblies and subassemblies of combat vehicles. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Work requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance. Employee is expected to climb onto equipment, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel and stand for extended periods of time. Works, as required, in cramped or awkward positions. Occasionally work in high places may be required.
  • Work is usually performed in well-lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Exposed to dirt, grease, dust, exhaust fumes, and high noise levels. Subject to the possibility of injury such as cuts, bruises, burns, electrical shock, and falls from equipment. Work may be performed outside in inclement weather. Required to wear safety equipment/clothing as prescribed for the area in which work is being performed.
