Duties

Help
  • You will establish contact with engineering and architectural personnel to coordinate work efforts, review drawings and design specifications.
  • You will review architectural plans and specifications for compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, instructions, policies and procedures.
  • You will analyze conventional projects involving designs, maintenance, and repair to identify necessary standard engineering practices.
  • You will develop drawings and sketches for project implementation (e.g., facility layouts, facility equipment design, modification drawings, equipment design modification).
  • You will determine project requirements to meet design objectives.
  • You will consult with and visit engineering design activities and suppliers to determine the course of action needed.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field Facilities Engineering (FE) Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Using practical knowledge of architectural concepts, principles, and practices to assist others with preparing building designs, construction documents, and/or cost estimates for construction-related projects; 2) Creating architectural, structural, or topographic drawings for buildings and/or land areas; and 3) Operating a computer-aided drafting (CAD) system to create architectural drawings.

NOTE: This experience must be fully supported by your resume.

To qualify for the GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Leading or providing consultation to others in support of the execution of multi-discipline engineering projects consisting of maintenance and repair, construction, alteration and equipment installation of facilities and structures; 2) Using practical knowledge of architectural concepts, principles, and practices to prepare building designs, construction documents, and cost estimates for construction-related projects; 3) Creating detailed architectural, structural, and topographic drawings for buildings and/or land areas; and 4) Operating a computer-aided drafting (CAD) system to create architectural drawings.

Physical Demands
The work requires regular and recurring construction or field inspections, investigations, or surveys in which there is a considerable amount of walking, stooping, bending, and climbing.

Work Environment
The work is usually performed in an office setting, although there may be exposure to noise, dust, or other undesirable conditions in building under construction or in contractors' plants.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
