Summary

This position is located on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest with the Washburn Ranger District in Washburn, WI.

This position is located on a Forest Service unit and is responsible for performing a variety of complex and recurring duties in support of wildlife habitat on the unit.

  • The following responsibilities are listed and the full performance (GS-07) level.
  • Schedule, organize, and execute project habitat improvement work based on organizational programs of work.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop work plan.
  • Provide reports on work methods, data collected, and project evaluation
  • Collect data from field locations to be analyzed for wildlife studies.
  • Plan and participate in fishery projects for improving habitat and population monitoring.
  • Evaluate data and make recommendations for improvement of habitat or species protections.
  • Plan and conduct a variety of wildlife studies to gather data for evaluation.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-06 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05); OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture); OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Examples of specialized experience are: Completing wildlife habitat project work, and/or assessing wildlife habitat environments, requirements, and inhabitants; Collecting field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; Compiling biological data obtained from aerial photos and ground surveys to determine vegetation type for wildlife and fisheries use.

For the GS-07 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-06); OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture); OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
