Summary

This Reimbursable Billing Technician position is in a Veteran Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) facility aligned with a Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC) organizationally aligned under the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will serve as a Facility Revenue Technician (FRT). The CPAC is a regionally consolidated business entity established to enhance revenue within Veterans Health Administration (VHA). These positions are located in El Paso, TX and Bonham, TX.

Help

Duties include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Researches, analyzes, generates, and corrects Veteran's first party co-payments for care
  • Accesses, retrieves, manages, and processes various revenue reports
  • Serves as the point of contact for resolving operational problems as it applies to Veterans accounts
  • Analyzes and evaluates techniques to determine if first party co-payment bills are appropriate
  • Reviews and processes all specialty billing encounters
  • Reviews and analyzes, researches, and verifies insurance policy coverage, filing timeframes, Coordination of Benefits information and pre-certification requirements for third party billing
  • Maintains databases
  • Collaborates with eligibility and enrollment services
  • Documents current account status for all billing and accounting actions, transactions and decisions
  • Serves as a financial ambassador/educator by providing Veterans, their families, VAMC teams and other internal and external agencies, guidance on repayment plans, waivers, interpreting insurance and eligibility benefits, and other factors that impact the Veteran's accounts for both first party and third party billing
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications

In order to meet the minimum qualifications at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following:

English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. ~AND~

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of a Reimbursable Billing Technician. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: providing accurate and timely billing and collection activities to be completed in accordance within prescribed policies, regulations and laws; performing analysis of complex problems, gathering and collecting the necessary information, establishing the facts, and taking or recommending actions, based upon the application or interpretation of established guidelines; using independent judgment to best assist patients/customers and come to a resolution regarding their patient/customer billing, eligibility, insurance and care and/or services provided. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

Additional information

Physical Requirements: Requires that the work is primarily sedentary. The employee may sit comfortably to do the work. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
