Summary

VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is currently seeking those to serve as Health Aids throughout the Medical Center and it's various locations in the Las Vegas valley. The Health Aid is responsible for screening visitors to the VA facilities upon entrance. These positions will be assigned to the Nursing Service line.

ALL US CITIZENS. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (COVID-19 - VA 002) in-accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3304(a)(3) and 5 CFR 337.205(b)(1)-(4). OPEN TO APPLICANTS WITHIN A 50 MILE RADIUS OF THE LAS VEGAS METROPOLITAN AREA.

Duties

Help

The Health Aid serves as the first point of contact for many of our customers by serving at the information desk or any other area where patients and visitors would seek information. They will be located in strategic areas where patients and visitors need assistance. This may include outdoors in inclement weather and assistance will include screening visitors prior to entry into the facility.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Following safety policies and procedures.
  • Safely operate the parking lot shuttle.
  • Respond to phone and face-to-face inquires.
  • Respond to questions, provide information (when appropriate to do so) and gives guidance.
  • Courteously and proactively assist potential shuttle riders across the campus, including patients in wheelchairs.
  • Screen requests according to priority, referring inquiries to appropriate sources.
  • Work reviewed for adherence to instructions and procedures.
  • Screening visitors upon entry to VA facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books or small parts. Driving of a golf cart will be required. Universal precautions are followed at all times.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-2:

  • 3 Months of general experience
OR
  • High School Diploma
GS-3:
  • 6 months of general experience
OR
  • Successful completion of 1 year of study that includes study in medical or health related fields. (Transcripts must be uploaded).

  • Combination of experience and education (please see below for more information)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Successfully completed post-high school education is qualifying for grades GS-3 through GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school.

Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. For GS-3 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the 6 months' experience required for GS-3; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the l year of education that meets the requirements for GS-3. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-3.

Education

Transcripts must be uploaded with application if using education to qualify. Failure to do so will result in an 'Ineligible' rating.

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
