Duties

Help
  • Duties are listed at full performance grade level.
  • Collecting samples, establishing tests and control plots, as necessary.
  • Compiling and summarizing data obtained from aerial and ground surveys including natural resource monitoring, evaluations, and pilot tests conducted as part of the project.
  • Taking photographs to record resource damage.
  • Running computer programs to organize the data for analysis.
  • Conducting routine analyses.
  • Providing the data to professional personnel after checking it and developing explanations for unusually high or low figures or figures that seem inconsistent.
  • Schedules, organizes, and executes field projects for detecting, identifying and evaluating natural resource problems.
  • Using prescribed procedures, the incumbent resolves common administrative and safety concerns related to the project.
  • Assists with development of reports after higher graded employees have refined and verified the data and analyzed the results.
  • Participates as a team member to collaboratively achieve mutual goals and objectives.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the date the certificate of eligible candidates is issued. Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-5 level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Utilized topographic maps, photographs, and data that identify a variety of natural resource areas and conditions; used a variety of tools to collect and record data such as numbers, measurements, weights, samples, and special notes, and made determinations for easily identifiable corrective action; and prepared data summaries in proper format.OR A bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours). OR Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university with courses related to the occupation of the position.

For the GS-6 level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Analyzed natural resources information, and prepared reports of findings with appropriate recommendations; Utilized topographic maps, photographs, and data that identify a variety of natural resource areas and conditions; Collected samples and recording data such as numbers, measurements, weights, samples, and special notes, and made determinations, such as species identification, habitat condition, injury, disease. OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

For the GS-7 level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Detected, identified and evaluated natural resources problems; compiled and summarized data obtained from Ariel and ground surveys; collected samples, established test and control plots; conducted routine analysis. OR One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed.
