Summary

This position is located in the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), The incumbent of this position will work within the Office of the Deputy Inspector General for Investigations (DIG INV), Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), Investigative Operations Directorate.

Duties

Help
  • Monitors, coordinates, analyze and evaluate activities in relation to analytical tools, databases and investigative research.
  • Review analytical and investigative case support to investigations and summarizes pertinent data.
  • Develops policies and procedures on investigative research and analysis in accordance with basic legislation, Department of Justice guidelines and other Federal entities.
  • Maintain expert level currency in investigative databases and law enforcement analysis techniques, policies and methodologies.
  • Maintain knowledge of laws of arrest, search and seizure and regulations, restrictions and policies.
  • Responsible for the development, design, modifications, expansion and improvements to sensitive databases, techniques and analysis based upon the law enforcement mission and to meet emerging trends.
  • Maintain DCIS software and provides direction to field Investigative Analysts, Agents and Managers.
  • Conducts trends analyses to formulate lessons learned and best practices applicable for future investigations.
  • Maintains significant liaison relationships with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Has expert written and oral communication skills to represent the agency at conferences and meetings, and serves as a subject matter expert within the respective program area.
  • Provides operational support and guidance to other programs within Investigative Operations.

  • Position has been designated as Security designation level of Critical Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  • If you have not previously completed a probationary period with the Federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience AND the Selective Placement Factor as described below.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level in the Federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: demonstrated work experience related to the major duties and knowledge requirements of this position. Specialized experience is work experience which includes monitoring, coordinating, analyzing and evaluating activities in relation to analytical tools, databases, Financial Fraud, and investigative research. Maintains knowledge of the laws of arrest, search and seizure and regulations, restrictions and policies that govern the collection of investigative data and documentation. Has significant oral and written communication skills to serve as a liaison and agency representative internally and externally to the agency. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and competencies to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Selective Placement Factor: To qualify for this position, you must be an experienced user of i2 Analyst's Notebook software to conduct investigative analysis.
