The incumbents of these positions will report directly to the CHNO-HSD National Program Hosting Branch (NPHB) Chief and will serve as Senior Systems Administrators in the NPHB. The purpose of these positions are to provide design, engineering, and Tier 3 escalation capabilities for the Cloud Hosting and Networks Office. A primary goal is to ensure Platform as a Service (PaaS) services and capabilities provided to judiciary customers achieve 99.9999% uptime operations. They are assigned projects that must be defined, documented, executed, and closed. They must stay current on the technologies and assist in evaluating current processes and procedures for opportunities to enhance and improve services, and ensuring that approved processes and procedures are followed through review and audit activities. The Senior Systems Administrators will also be responsible for working highly technical projects as directed supporting the IaaS and PaaS capabilities, reporting status and compliance as required. This includes coordinating and maintaining relationships with all necessary internal and external stakeholders supporting assigned services.

Duties of the positions include, but are not limited to:

  1. Serving as technical leaders for Cloud Hosting and Networks Office Hosting Services Division National Program Hosting Branch's PaaS projects and work efforts, providing both leadership and hands on support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and/or Microsoft Windows operating systems and ensuring the availability and performance of assigned systems and infrastructure.
  2. Working with internal and external stakeholders, managing and maintaining components, tools, clients and capabilities necessary to support IaaS and PaaS services in a large enterprise environment.
  3. Developing, publishing, and maintaining standard operating procedure (SOPs) and best practices, as well as those necessary to create reports and trend analysis for management and other hosting branches related to usage of the services assigned.
  4. Monitoring and managing support requests assigned or related to assigned services, and ensuring that requests are handled in accordance with established service level agreements.
  5. Maintaining detail necessary to ensure that applicable service and operating level agreement key performance indicators are met and that those documents reflect the current state of IaaS and PaaS services.
  6. Working with internal stakeholders, managing and maintaining images (templates), tools, clients and capabilities and overseeing security maintenance activity necessary to maintain compliance of associated systems, and ensuring that applicable change and release management processes and procedures are followed.

  5. You will be required to serve a trial period if selected for a first-time appointment to the Federal government, transferring from another Federal agency, or serving as a first-time supervisor. Failure to successfully complete the trial period may result in termination of employment.
  6. If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
  7. Relocation expenses may be provided, but only if authorized by the Director of the AO.

Qualifications

Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in ALL of the following areas:

  • Administering and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows (2016 or 2019) and/or RHEL (RHEL 6 and 7) in a multi-tenant, enterprise environment;
  • Deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting virtual server systems on the VMware vSphere v6.5 or higher platform at enterprise scale supporting users across multiple locations;
  • Implementing and maintaining and Microsoft Windows (2016 or 2019) and/or RHEL (RHEL 5, 6, and 7) architecture design and platform deployment programs in a large and diverse enterprise environment;
  • Defining and implementing Windows or RHEL deployable packages and patch deployment methodologies including the creation of scripts to apply specific patch bundles to Microsoft Windows and RHEL servers;
  • System automation experience on the BMC TrueSight System Automation (TSSA) platform deploying custom scripts and applying security patches against Microsoft Windows and RHEL platforms; and
  • Proficiency with troubleshooting mid-sized Microsoft Windows Active Directory and Group Policy (GPO) issues.
