    This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Coast Survey (OCS), in the Hydrographic Surveys Division’s (HSD) Atlantic Hydrographic Branch, with 2 vacancies in Norfolk, VA, and the Pacific Hydrographic Branch, with 1 vacancy in Seattle, WA.

    As a Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

    • Deploy up to 180 days a year to survey vessels to maintain proficiency in acquiring, processing, and analyzing hydrographic data, including all the ancillary data used to transform raw bathymetric soundings to chart datum.
    • Provide input and implement new policy to ensure continuous process improvement.
    • Participate in the testing and evaluation of new hydrographic systems and new software and and systems.
    • Compile maps, charts, smooth sheets and other cartographic products from hydrographic and bathymetric data.

    NOTE: These duties are described at the full performance level of the ZP‐3; the ZP‐2 is developmental leading to such performance.

    Travel Required

    50% or less - Up to 50% domestic or foreign travel may be required for this position (Physical Scientists in the Hydrographic Surveys Division are deployed to NOAA field units up to 180 days per year).
